Alexandre Weill is a Partner in the business, and part of our Paris team since April 2021.

Prior to Spayne Lindsay, Alexandre worked three years at Messis Finance, seven years as a chef and restaurant entrepreneur, ten years in investment banking at Morgan Stanley (Paris and London) and one year at CS First Boston (Paris).

Across his 15 years of experience in M&A, Alexandre has advised on more than 20 deals for a total value exceeding $30b and worked across all products including M&A, LBO, IPO, secondary offering, bond issues, etc.

Alexandre is a graduate of HEC Paris (1998) and Ferrandi Paris (2011), French school of culinary arts and hospitality management.

Chris is a Partner in the business, having joined Spayne Lindsay & Co in 2011.  He is a graduate of Oxford University holding a First Class Master’s degree in Chemistry and is also a Chartered Accountant, having qualified with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Since joining the Spayne Lindsay & Co team, Chris has led and worked on several buy-side and sell side M&A and advisory projects including the £550m sale of Quorn to Monde Nissin, the sale of Reflex Nutrition to Associated British Foods and the £180m sale of Karro Food Group to Capvest.

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Chris worked as a member of the Corporate Tax advisory team at PricewaterhouseCoopers with a focus on US inbound and PE portfolio companies, many within the consumer sector. Latterly Chris worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Transaction Tax/Business Recovery Services Tax team where he worked on general M&A structuring and tax restructuring solutions of distressed and insolvent companies.

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Emma worked in M&A Advisory at BNP Paribas in Paris and Brussels and Mizuho in London focusing on international transactions mostly across the consumer and industrial space. Most recently she worked as an M&A Manager at Groupe Casino, a leading French food retailer.

Eric Lanthiez is a Partner of the business, having joined the Paris office in April 2021. He is a graduate of Toulouse Business School and holds a degree in accounting.

Eric began his career with the M&A team of BNP Paribas in New York for 2 years, then in Latin America where he spent 7 years based in Buenos Aires. Between 2001 and 2010, he worked with Rothschild & Co in Paris, covering Central Eastern Europe, North Africa, Ukraine and Turkey where he set up the Istanbul office in 2007. Before joining Spayne Lindsay, Eric headed Messis Finance, a Unigrains-owned M&A advisory boutique focused on Food & Agri, for 5 years.

Eric has specialized on the Food & Agri sector, advising clients on numerous cross-border transactions, buy-side as well as sell-side roles, including Mutandis’ acquisition of Season Brand (USA), divestment of Ulrick & Short (UK) to Novax, acquisition of ABI Ltd (Canada) by Mecatherm, divestment of McKnight Food Group (USA), acquisition of Euroclassic (USA) by Europastry, acquisition of Costa d’Oro (Italy) by Avril, acquisition of MyFresh (UK) by Agrial, acquisition of Unicorn (Netherlands) by Limagrain, acquisition of Aqualande (France) by Labeyrie, acquisition of Père Olive (Belgium) and King Cuisine (Netherlands) by Labeyrie.

Guy Phillips is Chairman of the Americas. Guy has extensive M&A and capital markets experience with large capitalization and growth companies, entrepreneurial families, hedge funds and private equity funds.

Previously, Guy was Global Head of the Consumer Products & Retail Group at UBS Investment Bank and a member of the Investment Banking Division Executive Committee. While at UBS, he also served as Global Head of the Entrepreneurs Coverage Group which was responsible for all corporate finance activity with the firm’s entrepreneurs and families. In that role, he sat on the Executive Committee for the UBS Latin America Wealth Management Executive Committee. He also served as European Head of the Private Equity Coverage Group, where he had responsibility for providing investment banking services to leading private equity firms.

Prior to attending business school, Guy was also a Product Manager in the Chemicals business of Rhone-Poulenc S.A., a French manufacturer of specialty chemicals for a variety of industries, including the personal care and beauty industries.

Guy is the Founder of NuOrion Partners, a private investment firm, and is a Senior Advisor to 17Capital.

Jens is a Senior Advisor in the business, having joined Spayne Lindsay & Co in 2016 and leads the alcoholic beverage sector activities.   He is a seasoned M&A and strategy advisor, with over 25 years of industry and investment banking experience. Jens set up boutique advisory firm Brodersen & Co. in 2003, where he has worked with a broad range of international clients, primarily in the drinks sector.

Previously, Jens worked at two leading drinks firms, Diageo and Seagram, where he held senior positions in M&A, general management, sales & marketing, and business development. He spent his early career at investment banking firms Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston in London, Frankfurt and New York.

Jens holds an MBA from Insead and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.  He is a native German and speaks French and conversational Spanish.

John Duffy|Partner

John is a Partner at Spayne Lindsay and a Partner of NuOrion Capital, our US affiliate. In addition, John is the founder of ROCKER & CAMBER, LLC which advises founders, families and funds with a principal focus on their private investment strategies.  His advisory relationships have included the private venture and growth teams at JP Morgan Asset Management and Franklin Templeton (active).

At J.P. Morgan, John founded Morgan Private Ventures (MPV). MPV is a global private investment business focused on funding mid-stage growth companies via direct and co-investment transactions with capital raised from institutionally qualified family office clients. Morgan Private Ventures, via its clients, invested over $3 billion of capital since its inception in 2015. Prior to the founding of Morgan Private Ventures John served as Vice Chairman of J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Global Head of Institutional Wealth Management and CEO of the U.S. Private Bank. He was a member of the J.P. Morgan Private Bank Operating Committee, CEO of the J.P. Morgan Trust Bank, U.S. CEO of Securities, Trust and Information Services division and US Head of Mortgage Backed Securities sales with the J.P. Morgan Investment Bank. He began his career with J.P. Morgan in 1982.

John is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and New York University, Stern School of Business. He and his spouse, Tricia, reside in New York.  Their three adult sons, John, Patrick and Brendan live and work in California and New York.

 

 

Jonathan Tretler|Partner

Jonathan is a Partner at Spayne Lindsay and a Partner of NuOrion Capital, our US affiliate. He has has over 25 years of investment banking and strategic advisory experience. His areas of expertise include corporate strategy, M&A and capital raising initiatives on behalf of corporate and private equity clients. His industry expertise covers all aspects of the consumer products and retail landscape, with a particular focus on the food & beverage sector. Over the course of his career, Jonathan has originated and led the execution of advisory and capital raising transactions with an aggregate value of over $200bn.

Most recently, Jonathan was Managing Director and the Head of the North America Consumer & Retail Group at HSBC which he joined in 2017. Prior to HSBC, Jonathan was head of the Food & Beverage Investment Banking practice at RBC Capital Markets for four years. He has also held leadership roles at Deutsche Bank and UBS.

Jonathan currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee at Feeding Westchester, Westchester County’s largest food bank. He is also a Member of the Ambassador’s Council for the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. Jonathan holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from The Wharton School.

Nick is a Senior Advisor in the business and joined us after twenty-five years in the investment banking industry as a consumer and retail sector banker.  In 2012, he was appointed Global Head of Consumer and Retail Sector Investment Banking at UBS where he remained until leaving in 2017. Nick brings with him a global relationship network, experience of multiple sub-sectors and many years of cross-border M&A and IPO experience.

After graduating from Oxford University in 1992, Nick joined Robert Fleming Corporate Finance in London.  In 1996, he was seconded to Jardine Fleming in Hong Kong.  In 2000, he moved to Credit Suisse and in 2008 to UBS.  He has spent eighteen years of his career in Hong Kong, with the remainder in London.

Nick has originated and executed numerous M&A and ECM transactions across the retail and consumer products spectrum including assignments for MNCs such as Danone, PepsiCo, Diageo, Mondelez, Cargill, Unilever, Wal-Mart, Auchan, Best Buy, Samsonite, and L’Occitane.  Asian clients he has worked with include the likes of China Resources, Belle, COFCO, LGH&H, Trust-Mart, Ting-Hsin, San Miguel, and Mengniu Dairy.   He has worked with many private equity firms on both buy-side and sell-side assignments including KKR, CVC, TA Associates, Affinity, Baring Private Equity Asia, PAG, and TPG.

Philippe Leopold is a Partner of the business. He runs our Paris office and our Continental European practice. Philippe has more than 20 years’ M&A experience with corporates, entrepreneurial families and private equity houses across the consumer sector including the €4.5bn acquisition of ekaterra by CVC, the €1.4bn acquisition of Cooper by CVC, the disposal of Boulangeries Louise to Teract, the €1.4bn disposal of Naturex to Givaudan, the €400m acquisition of Campbell’s Soup operations in Europe by CVC, the €200m disposal of Montblanc Materne to LBO France and the creation of Aryzta.

Philippe was previously in charge of Messier Maris & Associés’ consumer practice and co-ran Citi’s Consumer Retail team in EMEA. Rick is a Senior Advisor in the business and brings with him 30 years’ of private company M&A experience across the mid-market. Rick’s focus at Spayne Lindsay is on growth capital fund raising and lower mid-market M&A.

Rick served as the head of KPMG’s Consumer Market M&A team in the UK and across Europe until 2009. Rick then spent the next decade running his own private M&A business focused on the growth capital space.

Rick has executed numerous M&A transactions across the consumer sector (covering food, consumer products and retailers) including Dreams PLC, Dunlop Slazenger and Hensons Foods, he has also advised on multiple transactions for ABF.

Sergio Pedreiro|Advisor

Sergio is a Partner at Spayne Lindsay and a Partner of NuOrion Capital, our US affiliate. Sergio Pedreiro is the former Chief Operating Officer of Revlon. He has more than 20 years of experience in international finance and business administration. Sergio was previously a partner of BTG Pactual in the Private Equity group. Before joining BTG Pactual, he was the CFO of Coty, the global beauty company with US$5 billion where he led the Coty’s IPO on NYSE in mid-2013. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer of America Latina Logística SA, the largest publicly traded cargo railroad in Brazil.

Sergio began his career as a business consultant at McKinsey & Company in Brazil and was also previously an intern at Goldman Sachs in New York.

He received his B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering from ITA—Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronautica in Brazil with honors and holds an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University.

 

Shaun Brownell|Partner
Shaun The Team

Shaun is a Partner in the business, having joined in 2005. He is a graduate of Cambridge University, where he studied Economics and is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified with Arthur Andersen.

Shaun has led a large number of M&A transactions and advisory projects across the Consumer sector including the acquisition of Symington’s by Intermediate Capital Group, the sale of Clipper Tea to Wessanen and the £550m sale of Quorn to Monde Nissin.

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Shaun spent four years at Arthur Andersen, and later Deloitte, where he worked in the real estate tax team before transferring to the private equity and M&A group.

Thanina Ferrat|Office Manager
Thanina The Team

Thanina is an Office Manager for our Paris office, having joined Spayne Lindsay & Co in 2022. Thanina studied at Enaco Business School, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in European Management. She is responsible for the day to day operations at the office, including staff management, overseeing the firm’s finances and coordinating office events.

Tom The Team

Tom is a founding Partner of Spayne Lindsay & Co. He is a Chartered Accountant and graduate of Manchester University and has over 25 years investment banking experience, having worked for Flemings and Lehman Brothers, both in the UK and USA. Tom founded Spayne Lindsay & Co, with John Spayne, in 2004.

Tom Girardi|Partner

Tom Girardi is a US Partner focused on the Food & Beverage/Consumer Products sectors in North America and Latin America. Tom has more than 25 years’ experience in the identification, planning and execution of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions.

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay, Tom was Managing Director for HT Capital Advisors, LLC where he advised family owned companies, private equity firms and corporate clients on buy-side and sell-side transactions. Tom advised Hormel Foods on their acquisition of Justin’s Nut Butter in the US and their first acquisition in Brazil. Previously, he was M&A Director for Unilever where he managed their corporate development initiatives in the Americas region for thirteen years. Earlier in his career, Tom held strategic planning and financial management roles with Reckitt’s US business. During his career, he has played an integral role in the successful completion of more than fifty acquisitions and divestitures; including several multi-billion-dollar transactions involving major consumer brands.

Tom holds an MBA in Finance from Rutgers Business School and a BS in Accounting from Montclair State University. He also holds Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified in Financial Management (CFM) designations.

Tommaso Turri|Associate
Tommaso The Team

Tommaso is an Associate, having joined Spayne Lindsay & Co in 2019. He graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management and holds an MSc in Banking and Finance from King’s College London. 

Since joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Tommaso has worked on a variety of M&A projects, including the acquisition of Forthglade by IK Investment Partners and the sale of Orchard House Food to Elaghmore. 

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Tommaso worked at Fineurop Soditic, a Milan based boutique investment bank where he advised Italian and international clients on M&A across a range of sectors, including consumer.

Yann The Team

Yann is a Senior Analyst, having joined Spayne Lindsay & Co in 2022. He graduated from ESSEC Business School’s Master in Finance.

Prior to joining Spayne Lindsay & Co, Yann worked for Canaccord Genuity and other investment banking boutiques in Paris, providing M&A advisory across a range of sectors including consumer, industrial, software and healthcare.

Adam Greaves|Corporate Advisor
Adam The Team

Adam worked in the City as a corporate lawyer for over thirty years until his retirement in 2017. He was a joint head of Private Equity at International law firm Jones Day for over ten years. He has extensive experience of working on transactions in the foods and beverages sector, including several deals with Spayne Lindsay.
